Don’t Be a Statistic
I attended a lecture yesterday where some staggering statistics were reviewed. I already knew, but to hear them spelled out all together was mind-blowing.
47-50% of people in the USA have high blood pressure. HALF. Left alone, this puts you at risk of heart attack, stroke, and destruction of your other organs, such as your kidneys.
1 in 3 deaths in the USA are related to cardiovascular disease. A THIRD.
11% of people are diabetic. 38% are prediabetic. That means ALMOST HALF of the entire USA has blood sugar issues. Left alone long enough, you start losing things like vision and limbs and cognition.
22-30% of people have metabolic syndrome, which is a combo of high blood pressure, elevated fasting blood sugar, elevated triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol, and excess abdominal fat. ONE FOURTH.
Know what these things have in common? Leave ’em untended long enough and they’ll kill you.
WHAT TO DO?
Now, your doctors will probably offer you pills and medicine. Pills can lower blood pressure. Meds can lower blood sugar. You can choose these options if you want, but they are expensive options, none without side effects, and they are band-aids which do not get to the root of the problem.
You know what can get to the root of the problem in many cases?
Lifestyle changes. Simply figuring out how to eat differently and how to move differently can resolve a huge proportion of these issues.
Imagine if it were in your control. No regular trips to the pharmacy, no shelling out big bucks, no repeated doctor visits. Don’t even get me started on how much better you’ll feel.
You don’t have to do it alone. This kind of change can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Health coaches can help. If you’re on the fence, a consultation costs you nothing. Please reach out.
