No Mo’ Yo Yo
𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐯𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬.
Here’s what happens:
You’re sitting there, working, minding your own business, and BING! “I want something to eat.”
A tiny piece of you feels guilt and shame. You just had a snack like what, an hour ago? Yet here you are again.
You open the cabinets and stare in. You open the fridge and peer in. Nothing looks appealing, but the munchies are still there.
Apple? Nah.
Carrot? Nah.
You open the same cabinet doors again, hoping that the “thing” you’ve craving (that you’re not even aware you’re craving) has magically appeared.
You finally settle on something you know isn’t good for you. The cookies you’d sworn you wouldn’t open until your niece visited. Or the leftover ice cream you promised yourself would wait.

Then you eat it, feeling uneasy, annoyed, guilty, frustrated, ashamed, stuck.
Certainly not with enjoyment.
And that same sense of feeling icky is still there when you finish, which makes it even worse.
And this cycle happens 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚, so you vow to go on a diet and only eat healthy foods.
And that lasts a few weeks and you lose a few pounds, your spirits lifted.
Until it doesn’t last.
Repeat. Ad nauseum. You’re in the dreaded yo-yo diet cycle.

It’s going to start with inner work first.
First you need some learning. In particular, you need to learn to stop the shame. That’ll come when you understand WHY you keep falling into these patterns.
I will tell you this: It’s not your fault.
Then you need to understand a lot more about your emotional history with food. Your family, your culture, your society, your TV, your magazines, your emotions, your needs, your HEART.
Then you need to do some things differently. Handle stress differently. Identify triggers more easily. Have some tools at the ready.
